Garth Knox (UK/France) – Viola d’amore
Saturday, February 13, 2016; 8 PM
Free pre-show chat at 7:15 PM
The Annex (823 Seymour Street, 2nd floor, Vancouver)

Experience the sounds of an original and exotic instrument – the viola d’amore – in the hands of celebrated, virtuosic soloist Garth Knox. A colorful multi-stringed instrument originating in the European Baroque period, and much favored by Vivaldi, the viola d’amore’s full harmonic resonance and strikingly subtle and seductive sounds can be heard in a mixture of old and new music, masterfully played by Knox. The performance will feature world premieres of new works by Farshid Samandari and Donald Stewart.

“(Knox) exhilaratingly liberated every timbre, note or noise his instrument could produce.” – Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh
