Music in the Morning’s artistic director and one of Canada’s pre-eminent musicians closes our 2015–16 season. After making his debut with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra at the age of fifteen, Barry Shiffman has enjoyed a career that has included solo appearances across North America and Europe, as well as a remarkable seventeen years with the St. Lawrence String Quartet. A sought-after chamber musician, he appears regularly at festivals in North America and Europe and directs the summer programs at The Banff Centre.
For Music in the Morning, he has chosen a generous program that includes Bach’s Chaconne for solo violin, Cesar Franck’s Sonata in A major, and a new work by Vancouver composer Rodney Sharman, commissioned for these concerts by MITM. He is joined by frequent collaborator, acclaimed pianist Jeanie Chung. Ms. Chung is a faculty member at The Banff Centre and a chamber music coach at The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
