8:00 pm – Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, 6265 Crescent Road

Glorious voices take centre stage in the pristine acoustics of the Chan Centre as Elektra welcomes Canadian soprano Isabel Bayrakdarian for a compelling and unique collaboration on International Women’s Day. On the program is Abbie Betinis’ lively From Behind the Caravan in which we welcome percussionist Robin Reid, the Canadian premiere of hauntingly beautiful Armenian hymns arranged by Serouj Kradjian for Bayrakdarian, cello (Rebecca Wenham), and women’s voices, and a commissioned work by Kradjian based on “Prayer” from The Prophet by Lebanese-American artist, poet, and writer Gibran Khalil Gibran. Bayrakdarian’s spellbinding voice has been heard on stages around the world in repertoire as diverse as baroque opera and contemporary music, including on the sound track of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
