Two masterpiece quartets by Brahms and Faure are featured on this program, both from the Romantic era. The classic piano Quartet scored for piano, violin, viola and cello becomes a tremendous vehicle for personal and artistic expression in the hands of these master composers. Brahms’ Piano Quartet in A, Op.26, perhaps the most lyrical of his quartets, offers romantic expression on a grand scale. It’s paired with Faure’s magnificent Piano Quartet in C minor, Op.15. This richly textured and beautiful piece shimmers with Faure’s vivid and imaginative musical language.
