MENDELSSOHN’S ‘SONG OF PRAISE’: VSO/BRAMWELL TOVEY, SOLOISTS, ELEKTRA WOMAN’S CHOIR, CHOR LIONI

Mendelssohn’s 2nd Symphony may not be as well-known as his later ‘Scotch’ or ‘Italian’ symphonies but it is the one which mimics the splendours of Beethoven’s 9th, with a well-written and exciting choral finale.  With distinguished soloists Monica Huisman, Kristin Hoff, and Isaiah Bell, and two choirs, this is one of the most distinguished choral events of the year. Shorter works by Brahms and Mendelssohn are also included on the programme.
