SIR ANDRAS SCHIFF, PIANO 

It must be a source of great joy to the Vancouver Recital Society to have sponsored Andras Schiff many times when he was younger and have him turn out to be one of the most masterful living pianists.  He was knighted just last year.  A true pioneer of Bach on the piano, he gave us a magnificent Book One of the Well-Tempered Clavier on his last visit.  This time, he turns to an innovative program of later sonatas by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert.  All of these have been previously recorded (often as part of a complete sonata cycle) for Teldec, Decca, and ECM.
