BRITTEN’S ‘WAR REQUIEM’, VSO/ BRAMWELL TOVEY, SOLOISTS, UBC UNIVERSITY SINGERS, UBC CHORAL UNION, W. POINT GREY ACADEMY CHORUS

This Remembrance Day is especially noteworthy since it coincides with the centenary of the beginning of World War I.  Set to texts by poet Wilfred Owen, Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem (1962) is an overwhelming work, both dramatic and tender, using large forces.  Soloists include Sheila Christie, soprano, Nicholas Phan, tenor and Russell Braun, baritone.  The programme also includes Vaughan Williams’ noble and moving Tallis Fantasia (1910)
